Alzheimer's Disease Workshop: Alzheimer's Disease Research from Different Perspectives

Workshop for PhD-students and Postdocs
November 6-8th, 2013
Bahia Resort Hotel, San Diego, USA
Society for Neuroscience Satellite Event, ISAO / AHAF

The Alzheimer’s disease (AD) research field produces a dizzying amount of publications each year. For graduate students and postdocs who enter this field, the learning curve can require many months of independent study just to learn the basics.

Recognizing the need to accelerate this process, the Internationale Stichting Alzheimer Onderzoek (ISAO), the Alzheimer Forschung Initiative (AFI), the Ligue Européenne Contre la Maladie d’Alzheimer (LECMA) and the BrightFocus Foundation (BrightFocus) are pleased to announce the fourth edition of our three-day educational workshop, “Alzheimer Research from different perspectives.” This “boot camp” approach is organized in collaboration with our scientific partners at the European Graduate School of Neuroscience (EURON). The meeting will precede the Society for Neuroscience (SFN) meeting in San Diego, and will run from November 6 – 8th, 2013.

The goal of the workshop is offer graduate students and postdocs an immersive opportunity to learn and discuss some of the latest trends in Alzheimer’s disease research. The workshop is designed to allow the participants to discuss and receive feedback related to their own research project via discussions, interactive workshops and scientific debates.

The workshop aims to provide graduate students and postdocs a recent overview of current knowledge and new directions in AD research. Workshop sessions are taught by leaders in the field, and emphasize interaction with students and immediate application of new knowledge through exercises such as debate and mock grant proposals.

The topics of the workshops are:
I Cellular and Pathological Events
II Molecular and Epigenetic Pathways
III Modeling Alzheimer’s Disease
IV Treatment Strategies

This workshop with its venue, the Bahia Resort Hotel, provides a unique and close learning experience, allowing participants to establish vital career networks with faculty, foundation representatives, and other students and postdocs. The meeting attracts approximately 40 participants from all over the world, and most of them take advantage of the subsequent SFN meeting to test their enriched view of Alzheimer’s disease.

Hotel and meals are provided in the cost of registration, through the sponsorship of ISAO and BrightFocus. We hope that you will recognize this opportunity as a cost- and time-efficient opportunity for bringing new graduate students and postdocs up to speed on the fast-evolving Alzheimer’s disease Research field.
